The Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris awarded Rodri of Manchester City, sparking strong reactions across the football community. Many fans and Pep Guardiola expected Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid to win. Vinicius had led Real Madrid to success in La Liga and the Champions League. However, the Brazilian forward missed out on the award, despite high expectations. In response, Real Madrid chose to boycott the ceremony.

Manchester City manager Pep shared his perspective on the result. He acknowledged that Vinicius was a strong contender for the award. Moreover, Guardiola believed the Ballon d’Or could have gone to either player. He explained that the decision reflects votes from a broad panel of journalists. “It’s journalists from around the world casting their votes,” Guardiola stated. Furthermore, he added, “Different perspectives make football what it is.”

Guardiola also expressed understanding for Real Madrid’s choice to skip the event. He stated, “If they want to show support by attending, great; if not, it’s their call.” Guardiola emphasized that Manchester City respects other clubs’ decisions. “We don’t judge other clubs on these choices,” he clarified.

Guardiola took the opportunity to remind his players of the value of recognition beyond awards. He noted that outstanding performances, like Erling Haaland’s 50-plus goals last season, may not always win individual awards. For Guardiola, the team’s overall success holds greater importance. “I told my players to take pride in being among the top few,” he remarked. “That in itself is an achievement.”

Rodri’s Ballon d’Or win holds special significance for Manchester City. He is the first player in the club’s history to win the award. Guardiola celebrated this milestone, comparing it to winning a league title or Champions League. “As a club, we’re incredibly proud,” he said. “This marks a special chapter in City’s journey.”

However, Guardiola now faces a challenge as Rodri recovers from an ACL injury. This injury leaves Manchester City without one of its key players. Despite this setback, Guardiola remains optimistic. He focuses on maintaining City’s momentum in the Premier League. Additionally, he looks forward to challenging Real Madrid in the Champions League.

With the Ballon d’Or now in Manchester’s possession, Guardiola’s goals remain clear. He aims to continue City’s rise in both domestic and European competitions.
