Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a chronic disease that includes inflammation of the
gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Two primary conditions are Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
The GIT tract is infected in both conditions, although the bowel’s layers and sections are
impacted differently. It may be caused by genetics. People who have a history of inflammatory
bowel disease in their family are at higher risk. It is a complicated and complex disease.

What is Crohn’s Disease?
Crohn’s disease includes the inflammation of the whole GI tract, from mouth to anus. Generally,
the ileum, or end of the small intestine, and the colon are majorly affected at the start. Crohn’s
disease penetrates into several layers of the GI tract as time passes. If we talk about ulcerative
colitis includes the inflammation of the innermost layer.

Symptoms of Crohn’s Disease
There are different symptoms and signs of Crohn’s disease, according to the severity and
location of inflammation. Some of the symptoms are mentioned here to help people in early
diagnosis of IBM:
Abdominal Pain and Cramping
Diarrhea
Fatigue
Weight Loss
Fever
Reduced Appetite
Mouth Sores
Anal Fissures or Fistulas

Due to inflammation, Abdominal pain is felt on the lower right side. Inflammation also leads to
less food absorption, which leads to weight loss.

Causes and Risk Factors

The immune system, environmental, and genetic factors plays a combined role .
People with historic inflammatory bowel disease have a high chance of suffering from this
disease. People with low immune systems are more prone to have extreme abdominal pain due toinflammation. Number of factors like stress, food, smoking, viruses and bacteria are also responsible for Crohn’s disease.

Diagnosis
Diagnosis of Inflammatory bowel disease includes many tests, such as Blood Tests, Stool
Tests, and Imaging Tests. Various imaging tests includes MRI, CT scans, and capsule endoscopy. Endoscopy involves pictures or visuals of the rectal and colon to detect IBM.

Medication
There is a symptomatic treatment for Crohn’s disease. Doctors prescribe medication for IBM,
such as Anti-inflammatory drugs, Immune System Suppressors, Antibiotics, and painkillers and sometimes surgery too.

Although Crohn’s disease is a complicated and challenging illness, many people with it can
have happy, fulfilled lives if they receive the proper care and make lifestyle changes. There is
ongoing research on inflammatory bowel disease because there is not enough information
about the disease. If you have symptoms of the disease, then go for the diagnosis because
